Kim Breshears was introduced to caring for seniors at a very early age. Her beloved grandmother, Dorothy, suffered from a debilitating form of Rheumatoid Arthritis. The years Kim spent with Dorothy developed values in her such as compassion, empathy and respect for those who suffer.
Kim began working in a nursing facility in high school as a Bed Maker, which then led to a 12-year career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), mostly working in skilled nursing facilities. Seeking a different experience, and ways to use her skills to connect with seniors on a deeper level, she found Rackleff Place.
Kim says she found the care setting at Rackleff Place, “Very rewarding and unlike any she has seen before.” The warmth, the connections, and the relationships formed were very impactful.
At Rackleff Place, Kim has served as Life Enrichment Coordinator and most recently as the Assistant Director, where she was able to develop her leadership, administrative and interpersonal skills. She is honored and privileged to serve as Director in this unique and home-like community. She’s committed to preserving its legacy and instilling these values in the next generation of care staff.
Nichole Van Atta earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Portland. After having worked in the financial industry, she decided she wanted the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and returned to school in 2008.
Nichole’s nursing background includes long-term care, skilled nursing, acute care, and assisted living. Throughout all her experiences, Nichole discovered that working with seniors and building positive connections is what she is most passionate about. “While working as a Nurse in a busy hospital and skilled nursing unit, I found I was missing the long-term connection with patients and their families. I love that Assisted Living allows me the opportunity to build trusting relationships with residents and families.”
Nichole also adds that, “Nursing is not just a job, it’s not all about the charting, and it’s not about checking vitals or calling doctor’s offices. Nursing is a heart and soul experience. It’s the ability to love people during their weakest moments and meet them where they are.”
Nichole lives in Canby and feels honored to be given the opportunity to serve the residents, families, and staff at Rackleff Place.
